A Legacy of Empowerment in San Ysidro

A Legacy of Empowerment in San Ysidro

In November, generations united at a one-of-a-kind celebration highlighting the powerful legacy of Girl Scouting in San Ysidro. Girl Scout Troop 5912 (a San Ysidro-based troop since the 1980s) hosted a special Daisy Ceremony to welcome 10 new kindergarten and first-grade Daisies into the troop—a milestone nearly 10 years in the making. The new Daisies include the children and grandchildren of troop 5912 alumnae from the 1980s, continuing a decades-long legacy of empowerment.

More than 50 attendees gathered for a formal ceremony to celebrate the next generation of Girl Scouts in troop 5912, including a color guard led by Gold Award Girl Scouts (the highest achievement in Girl Scouting), Girl Scouts past and present, families, and friends.

Under troop leader, Irene Barajas' guidance, two Gold Award Girl Scouts are now taking over leadership of the troop and mentoring the youngest members, highlighting the passing-the-torch that keeps traditions alive and allows for innovations moving forward. This event reflected the transformative power of Girl Scouts to unite and inspire.

Troop 5912 has been a source of empowerment, community, and leadership development for girls in San Ysidro for more than 40 years, and now it welcomes a new generation that will experience the magic of Girl Scouting because of this impactful legacy.
