Crossing Boundaries
The Incredible Race crosses generational and organizational boundaries to make connections among science and learning. Modeled after the TV show The Incredible Race, teams travel all through the park completing challenges to progress. Girl Scouts ranging from Daisies to Ambassador (grades K-12) and their adults form teams to participate in the race. Some teams are comprised of troops with girls of the same age level while other teams are comprised of girls in differing age levels.
Our Goal
The key outcomes of the Incredible Race are to build girl’s STEM interest, confidence, competence, and value and to support the STEM pillar of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. Girls will develop a strong sense of self, be challenge seeking, and develop healthy relationships. They will build confidence in their ability to solve clues to complete the challenges, learn about different women in STEM and their impact, take risks through participating and learning from the challenges, and work cohesively to make decisions as a team.
Participants
On average, between 300-350 Girl Scouts and 28-30 volunteers participate.
