Service Awards

Girl Scouts care about others and love helping out! Girl Scouts offers a variety of awards to recognize those who have gone above and beyond to help other Girl Scouts or their community in a meaningful way.

National Leadership Awards
community service bars

Community Service Bar:
When you earn a Cadette, Senior, or Ambassador Community Service bar, you are making a difference in your community – and practicing the values of the Girl Scout Law. It’s also a great way to get involved with a cause you care about.

To earn a Community Service Bar, choose a community organization and share the information with your troop leader or parent (if you are not in a troop). Provide 20 hours of service to that organization, and track your hours in a log. Submit your time log to your leader/parent. Leaders/parents give approval to earn the Service Bar.

service to girl scouting

Service to Girl Scouting Bar:
The Service to Girl Scouting Bar recognizes those who take the lead in the Girl Scout community. To earn this award, provide 20 hours of service to a troop, service unit, or to Girl Scouts San Diego, and track your hours in a log. Submit your time log to your leader (or parent, if you are not in a troop). Leaders/parents give approval to earn the Service to Girl Scouting Bar.

torch leadership

Torch Leadership Award:
This award recognizes a Girl Scout Cadette, Senior, or Ambassador who acts as a leader in her community. The award is earned by serving at least one term in a leadership position at your school, town council, community center, or similar organization. A term can be a quarter, semester, or year—as long as it adds up to a minimum of 20 hours of service. Track your hours in a log and submit to your leader (or parent, if you’re not in a troop). Leaders/parents give approval to earn the Torch Award.

Meritorious Service Awards

Every Girl Scout is prepared to do heroic things. When a girl receives one of the following awards, she’s being honored for doing something exceptional, such as saving someone’s life. These are national awards. Applications for these lifesaving awards are reviewed by our council and final approval is given by Girl Scouts of the USA. To request an application, contact Program Manager Rea de la Cruz at rdelacruz@sdgirlscouts.org
