Girl Scouts San Diego honored 56 Girl Scouts from San Diego and Imperial counties with the Gold Award—the highest achievement in Girl Scouting. The special ceremony held in Liberty Station was emceed by KPBS General Manager and 2023 Cool Woman, Deanna Mackey. MacKenzie Elmer, Environment and Energy Reporter at Voice of San Diego, provided an inspiring keynote address.
The Gold Award is the pinnacle of the Girl Scout leadership experience. The rising stars who lean into the challenge of reaching this impressive achievement demonstrate their exceptional growth, commitment to leadership, and readiness to take the next steps to make a tremendous impact on our world.
This year's Gold Award Girl Scouts tackled vital issues, including environmental sustainability and climate change, mental health awareness, animal conservation, LGBTQIA+ advocacy, disability inclusion and access, civic engagement, STEM, and more.
