Dear Girl Scouts San Diego Community,
As we begin a new membership year, we are delighted to welcome new Girl Scout friends to our community and say hello again to our renewing members. Our mission and 2024-2028 Strategic Plan will continue to guide us, underscoring the vital role that Girl Scouts San Diego (GSSD) plays in our local communities by empowering girls and building leaders.
On Saturday, Oct. 19, more than 800 delegates from across the country—including myself and nine representatives from our council—gathered virtually for the Special 57th National Council Session, a proud display of our Movement’s democratic process. Together, we discussed, debated, and defined our collective path forward. I was truly inspired by the enthusiasm our local delegates brought to this discussion. You can read more about the results of the Special Session on GSUSA’s website.
It’s important to note that the National Council, National Board, GSUSA, and Girl Scouts San Diego all share a commitment to ensuring there are no financial barriers preventing any girl from joining and staying in Girl Scouting. Financial assistance for program costs and membership dues is currently funded by generous donors (like you!), allowing us to make Girl Scouts available to every girl who wants to participate.
The last few months have come alive with activities and achievements. Our annual ‘fun’ fundraiser, Urban Campout: Fortune Favors the Bold, was a tremendous success, raising nearly $500,000 for our mission. We also honored more than 40 volunteers and corporate partners during our 2024 Volunteer Celebration at the Mingei International Museum. Meanwhile, our program teams have hosted one-day camps, the Empowering Me Older Girl Scout Conference, entrepreneurship and life skills workshops, and much more. Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Flickr to stay up to date on the happenings at GSSD.
We are carrying great momentum into this new Membership Year—all thanks to your dedication. With the season of giving upon us, we know many troops are planning holiday service projects. Share your efforts with us by emailing media@sdgirlscouts.org so we can highlight the positive impact Girl Scouts are making in our community.
Looking ahead to 2025, save the dates for:
Holiday One-Day Camps and Adventure Weekends—dates vary, learn more and register at sdgirlscouts.org/events
Girl Scout Cookie Program—Sunday, Jan. 26-Sunday, March 9
Cool Women Celebration—Friday, March 14
I encourage you all to stay involved and renew your memberships, update your MyGS profiles, and opt-in to communications from GSSD so you never miss an update.
Thank you all for being a part of this Girl Scouts San Diego community. Together, we are building leaders of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.
Yours in Girl Scouting,
Carol
