Dear Girl Scouts San Diego Community,
The summer sun is shining, and camp is officially back in session across our four beautiful San Diego County properties—Balboa Campus, Escondido Program Center, and Camps Whispering Oaks and Winacka in Julian!
The joy and excitement are palpable; I love hearing day campers learn songs, make lifelong friends, and develop leadership skills right outside my office walls at our Balboa Campus. Throughout the summer, girls at camp will explore nature, try outdoor cooking, experiment with hands-on STEM activities, learn about wilderness survival, and more.
There is something for everyone at Girl Scout Summer Camp! Spots are still available for future Day and Sleepaway Camp sessions, and prior Girl Scout membership is not required. Learn more and register at sdgirlscouts.org/camp.
My favorite part of camp is witnessing the growth in our Girl Scouts; we will welcome more than 1,800 campers this summer and watch as they learn how to be confident and resilient leaders. Families need significantly more financial assistance this year than in years past, and we are short of meeting this need. Your donations are more important now than ever. With your support, our financial aid Camperships can help provide every girl with the life-changing experience of Girl Scout Summer Camp, regardless of her family's ability to pay. Donate today at sdgirlscouts.org/campership.
Our recent Silver and Gold Award Ceremonies were tremendous successes. The Silver Award Ceremony celebrated the exceptional Take Action projects and leadership of 253 Cadette Girl Scouts. At the Gold Award Ceremony, we honored those who have earned the highest achievement in Girl Scouting, showcasing the dedication and impact of our 72 Gold Award Girl Scouts of 2024. I am so proud of these remarkable leaders!
We are gearing up for several signature events on the horizon. If you are a current volunteer or have an interest in supporting our life-changing mission, I encourage you to register for the Volunteer Conference and join us on Saturday, Aug. 24 for a day of learning, networking, and fun.
And, save the date for 2024 Urban Campout: Fortune Favors the Bold, set for Friday, Sept. 13. Adults are invited to this ‘fun fundraiser’ to enjoy outdoor activities, an exciting silent and live auction, and more, all while supporting our Girl Scout mission. Stay tuned for ideas on how to be bold with your costumes! Tables, sponsorships, and underwriting opportunities are available now. Learn more at sdgirlscouts.org/urbancampout.
I invite you to review our 2023 Annual Report and celebrate the incredible progress we made together during our last membership year.
Thank you for your unwavering support of our vibrant Girl Scout community. Together, we are empowering girls to be courageous and confident leaders who make a positive impact on the world.
Yours in Girl Scouting,
Carol
