Dear Girl Scouts San Diego Community –
Summer is here, and Girl Scout camp is officially in session!
More than 1,800 campers are flocking to four of our properties in San Diego County for Day and Sleepaway Camps this summer. They are exploring nature, seeking adventures, and trying their hand at outdoor cooking, engineering, wilderness survival, arts and crafts, and more. There is something for everyone at camp, and space is still available. Learn more and register at sdgirlscouts.org/camp.
My favorite part of every summer is watching young Girl Scouts have first-time experiences like leading a scavenger hunt, engaging in hands-on STEM activities, or training to become a future camp counselor. Your donations ensure that every girl can experience the magic of Girl Scout summer camp, regardless of her family's ability to pay. Donate today at sdgirlscouts.org/givenow.
Last month, we honored our 56 Gold Award Girl Scouts of 2023 at a ceremony in Liberty Station. We also presented the prestigious Girl Scouts Medal of Honor to Cadette Amelia Umstadter, who took bold actions to save her father’s life in an emergency. We are so proud to recognize the changemakers who are making a difference in our communities. Read on to hear Amelia’s story and to learn how this year’s Gold Award Girl Scout class made their mark.
We have several signature events on the horizon. Our Volunteer Learning team is busy planning the 2023 Volunteer Conference, taking place Saturday, Aug. 26 on our Balboa Campus. This is a fantastic opportunity to connect with community partners and network with Girl Scout friends old and new! Register now to secure your desired sessions.
I am very excited to share that Girl Scouts San Diego’s beloved fundraiser returns this fall after a three-year hiatus. Join us at our Balboa Campus on Friday, Sept. 22 for Urban Campout: Adventures Await. Visit sdgirlscouts.org/uc to learn more about the event and sponsorship opportunities.
Your support of each of these programs is vital. Your generosity funds leadership programs and equips Girl Scouts in San Diego and Imperial counties with the skills and confidence to seek adventures, overcome challenges, and create lasting change in their communities and beyond.
Thank you for investing in and supporting our important mission.
Have a great summer,
Carol M Dedrich
