As Avery packed her bags for Camp Winacka, she felt excited but nervous. Coming from a world where new experiences were rare, she wasn’t sure she could handle camp on her own. But Girl Scouts San Diego summer camp, focused on leadership, outdoor skills, and community, offered her the perfect place for growth.
By the end of the week, she had learned new skills—forestry, how to swim, and almost hitting a bullseye in archery. Avery left camp a new person, full of courage, confidence, and character.
Avery’s story is one of many. The problem is, not every girl can afford to attend camp. In San Diego and Imperial counties, many families are struggling to make ends meet, leading to a rise in requests for financial assistance.
Girl Scouts San Diego anticipates over $350,000 in financial aid requests this year for camp, membership, and more. Despite their hard work and resourcefulness, many girls are unable to attend due to circumstances beyond their control, like rising living costs or unexpected medical bills.
The actual cost of camp is as much as $1,200 per girl. As members, all Girl Scouts receive a discount, but many can't afford even that special rate. YOU can give a girl the joy, confidence, and friendships that come with Girl Scout Camp. YOU can transform a girl's future. Already, over 300 families have requested assistance this year.
We're committed to ensuring every girl, like Avery, can experience the magic of camp—with your help, it's possible.
Together, we can open doors to new possibilities and help girls like Avery discover their full potential.
