Dear Friend,
Girls are in a vulnerable place right now. They are living in a world with immeasurable pressure, unrealistic expectations, and trauma. Many are feeling disconnected and yearning for a sense of belonging.
The Girl Scout mission is more important than ever. Girl Scouts is a place where girls come as they are, feel safe, and find the support they need to thrive.
But not every girl has a place like Girl Scouts, where she can make lasting friendships, grow in confidence, and create hope for her future.
Will you help us provide a sense of belonging for more girls in San Diego and Imperial counties?
Allow me to explain why your donation is so badly needed.
A report by the CDC shared that U.S. teen girls are experiencing increased sadness and violence. In fact, nearly three in five girls felt persistently sad or hopeless in 2021, representing the highest level reported over the past decade.
I’ve seen the fragility of mental wellness in girls first-hand. When I was a troop leader, six out of eleven of my teenage Girl Scouts struggled with eating disorders, depression, or anxiety.
Today, I still volunteer within my service unit and see the different ways that our girls are struggling. Previously happy kids are experiencing low self-esteem, self-doubt, and crippling anxiety. The range of emotions and perspectives is so broad.
What helps these girls get through challenging times is having strong relationships with a group of non-judgmental peers and the support of caring adults outside of their parents. Our volunteers understand that there are going to be ups and downs, and they can create a steady and stable environment so every Girl Scout feels supported and knows that she can show up as her genuine self.
There is hope with Girl Scouts San Diego. Here, girls have a safety net, feel supported and loved, and know that they matter.
Countless girls in San Diego and Imperial counties need the sense of belonging that Girl Scouts provides. Will you donate to provide this safe space for a girl today?
Any amount you can give makes a big difference. Please give securely online at sdgirlscouts.org/give.
You can help a girl find hope and belonging in Girl Scouts San Diego.
