Highest Awards deadline extension: Recognizing that many schools, youth activities, and community gatherings have been suspended, and that we are navigating a period of rapid change, GSUSA is offering a three-month deadline extension, from Sept. 30 to Dec. 31, 2020, for Highest Awards final report submissions. This is particularly relevant for 5th grade Juniors, 8th grade Cadettes, and 12th grade Ambassadors who will bridge to the next program level officially on Sept. 30, 2020, and typically would be no longer eligible to earn the Bronze, Silver, or Gold Awards, respectively. You can pursue your Girl Scout Gold Award if:

You're in high school (grade 9-12 or equivalent)

You're registered as a Girl Scout Senior or Girl Scout Ambassador

You have completed two Senior or Ambassador Journeys OR earned the Girl Scout Silver Award and completed a Journey

First steps

Complete your Silver Award and one Senior/Ambassador Journey OR two Senior and/or Ambassador Journeys.
Take the Gold Award Online Training. You must be 13 years or older to register for this online course. By clicking this registration link, you certify that you are at least 13 years old. Use the code "gogold".
Review Your Guide to Going Gold.

The in-person GoGold Workshop is no longer a mandatory prerequisite in the Gold Award process. If still needed, find upcoming GoGold Workshop dates.

Gold Award Committee Volunteers Wanted

Job summary

Girl Scouts builds girls of courage, confidence and character. Gold Award Committee members are dedicated to helping Senior and Ambassador Girl Scouts earn their Gold Award, the highest and most prestigious achievement in Girl Scouting. They demonstrate a successful ability to mentor Gold Award candidates through the award process — from idea to proposal; project implementation through final report. Their fellow committee members are experienced teammates just as invested in supporting girls and promoting the Gold Award brand across our community.

Key qualifications

Strong communication skills with a knack for connecting with teen Girl Scouts.
Ability to collaborate with their peers on the Gold Award Committee.
Flexibility and tenacity to coach girls to help them understand the Gold Award process and project expectations.
Passion for promoting, educating and fostering the Gold Award in the community.

Description

Gold Award Committee members help Senior and Ambassador Girl Scouts earn the Girl Scout Gold Award with a project that meets GSUSA guidelines. To do so, they meet monthly to review the size, scope, and cost of each proposed project and make recommendations for project development, with the goal being to approve projects that are Girl Scout Gold Award caliber. They also mentor their Gold Award candidates, providing, as needed, one-on-one coaching sessions via phone, email or in-person, and support through the entire Gold Award process, including representing their projects at committee meetings. As a Gold Award expert, committee members seize opportunities to educate the community about the Gold Award at events, meetings, and in workshop settings.

Additional Requirements

Become a Gold Award process and project expert
Be a registered adult (minimum age 18) member in good standing, with current volunteer paperwork and background clearance on file.
Affirm that the Girl Scout movement actively seeks members of every racial, ethnic, religious and socioeconomic group.
Comply with Girl Scouts of the USA and Girl Scouts San Diego council standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Deadlines and Recognitions

The volunteer Gold Award Committee determines if and when a girl earns the Gold Award. Girls submit their final report forms to Girl Scouts San Diego for review on the first of any month.

Girls must submit their final reports by April 1 to participate in that year's Gold Award ceremony in June. The absolute deadline to submit a final report for committee approval is Sept. 1 of the year a girl graduates from high school. Girls leaving grade 12 officially bridge to adults on Oct. 1 and are no longer eligible to earn the Gold Award.

The 2019 Gold Award ceremony was held on Saturday, June 15 at the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines. We celebrated our 2019 class of Gold Award Girls Scouts whose diverse array of projects truly made the world a better place. See the program, photos, and more on our Gold Award Ceremony page.

In addition to the councilwide ceremony, we encourage parents and leaders to celebrate this accomplishment with their girls. We carry a selection of gifts for Highest Awardees, including patches and accessories, in our shops.
