Spring is officially in the air! Girl Scouts San Diego staff has been dedicated to advancing our mission through various successful programs and initiatives such as 2023 Cool Women, The Incredible Race presented by Booz Allen Hamilton, and many more that you can read about in this edition of Connections. We are also gearing up for all things camp, celebrating our Gold Award Girl Scouts, and welcoming nominations to honor inspiring, talented volunteers.
Speaking of camp, there is still time for Girl Scouts to enroll in our day or sleepaway camps happening at the Escondido and Balboa campus as well as mountain properties in Julian, CA. Learn more and register at sdgirlscouts.org/camp. If you know a college student or graduated Girl Scout looking for a rewarding summer job, encourage them to apply to join our camp staff – we are hiring for various roles.
As always, so much of how and what we do to impact the lives of more than 14,000 Girl Scouts is only possible with the support of our tireless Girl Scout volunteers and troop leaders. If you know a Girl Scout volunteer who is inspiring and uplifting to those in our community, please nominate them before June 5 for a Volunteer Award at sdgirlscouts.org/recognitions.
Last week we kicked off our Highest Award celebrations with the Silver Award Ceremony at Spreckels Organ Pavilion in Balboa Park, where we honored 232 Girl Scouts who made a sustainable difference in their communities as Cadettes. This year’s Silver Award projects addressed themes such as public safety, environment and sustainability, animal welfare, mental health and wellness, first aid, literacy, girl empowerment, and more.
Looking ahead to next month, we will honor 56 Gold Award Girl Scouts, remarkable leaders who demonstrated their ability to take action and leave a lasting impact that changes the world for good. Exhibiting passion and perseverance, our 2023 Gold Award Girl Scouts dedicated at least 80 hours to implement a project that addressed the root cause of an issue they care about. I am so proud of this year’s Bronze, Silver, and Gold Award Girl Scouts! Thank you for making the world a better place.
On behalf of the Board of Directors and Girl Scouts San Diego Staff, we thank you for your dedication to our important mission.
Yours in Girl Scouting,
Carol M Dedrich
