We'll begin our adventure just outside the town of Bishop at North Lake, following the Piute Pass trail. Our journey will take us over Piute Pass, down through Piute Canyon, up French Canyon, over Pine Creek Pass, and finally out at Pine Creek.
This outline is flexible, allowing you to decide how to spend your days along this route, which spans between 30 to 45 miles. There are many lakes and cross country exploring to do in the area and we will plan it all together. The high point on the route is Piute Pass at 11,423 feet and the remaining sit above 10,000 feet most of the way. The views are spectacular and the lakes are beautiful.
Trip Requirements for all participants
- Minimum age - 8th grade, and minimum bodyweight of 85 pounds in order to carry supplies.
- Each participant must be able to carry at least a 65 liter backpack with up to 6 days of food.
- Certified in 1st Aid and CPR
- Successful completion of Wilderness Hiking, Basic Backpacking , and at least 1 Advanced Trip prior to registration
- Attend all meetings and conditioning hikes that are listed below, and take personal responsibility for pre-trip walking/hiking training.
- All Adults must have a current background check and Live Scan on file with GSSD prior to the first meeting.
- * Please note : 85lbs is the minimum weight for all participants and the prerequisite of being able to carry 25-35lbs (20% of body weight) for this program*
