Operation Thin Mint℠

Stolen cookie proceeds: Your donations go to OTM

We are extremely grateful for the community’s compassionate response to the theft of cookie money from a 12-year-old member of Girl Scout Troop 4565. The girl involved and her mother have been touched by the reactions of people who were on the scene, as well as concerned individuals who learned about the incident. They also praised the San Diego Police Department for its excellent response.

All of the stolen money has been replaced by donations from generous members of the community. Funds in excess of that amount lost will be contributed to Operation Thin MintsSM in the name of Troop 4565. Operation Thin MintSM is a local program that sends Girl Scout Cookies and notes of support to deployed U.S. military troops. For additional information, phone (619) 610-0731.

Thank you to the San Diegans who purchased cookies and donated to Operation Thin MintSM in 2017, the 100th year of Girl Scouts selling cookies.

More than 13,000 local girls participated in cookie sales this year, learning valuable life and leadership skills while raising money for their troop activities and community service projects. All proceeds stay local, and also fund camp, volunteer training, and the financial assistance that keeps Girl Scouting available and affordable.

Operation Thin Mint℠ (OTM) is a local Girl Scout service project that originated in San Diego in 2002. Since then, our Girl Scout troops and their generous cookie customers have sent over 2.7 million boxes of America's favorite cookies and countless notes of support to deployed troops serving around the world, including Afghanistan, Iraq, Africa, Japan, Korea, and the Persian Gulf, Western Pacific and Indian Ocean. See feedback from the troops.

We collect "notes to show we care" year-round to send to deployed troops and veterans with shipments of OTM cookies. Print blank OTM notecards, decorate, and return to any Girl Scouts San Diego office or resource center.
