Navigating Life After the Pandemic
Tuesday, May 18, 5-6 p.m.
May is National Mental Health Awareness month. To promote the
importance of mental health, Girl Scouts San Diego hosted a Compelling
Conversation with CEO Carol Dedrich, Laura Vleugels, MD, and Kelley
Grimes, MSW. Dr. Vleugels and Ms. Grimes offered children and adults
ways to deal with the various emotions experienced during the COVID-19
pandemic. Panelists spoke of the importance of exercise, proper
nutrition, sleep, finding ways to stay connected to others, practicing
mindfulness, and finding and maintaining routine and structure.
“Cooling off the brain” by unplugging, becoming adventurous, playing,
learning something new, journaling, and laughing are also beneficial
to physical and emotional well-being.
Dr. Laura Vleugels serves as Supervising Child and Adolescent
Psychiatrist for the County of San Diego. Kelley Grimes, founder of
Cultivating Peace and Joy (www.Cultivating Peace and Joy.com), is a
counselor, public speaker, and best-selling author of “The Art of Self
Nurturing-A Field Guide to Living with more Peace Joy & Meaning”.
