Date: Sat Jan 08, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM PST

If you have completed the Wildernss Hiker class and want to go the next progression, backpacking is the second step in the training series. Training includes an all-day classroom session, a day of mostly moderate hiking with the group, a short meeting to check gear and pack weights, and an overnight trip to practice learned skills. Anza-Borrego Desert State Park makes a perfect location for a winter training, offering mostly mild weather for day hiking and crisp, cold nights. If we are lucky, clear skies will give us a stunning view of the stars.

Advanced Backpacking-Easy *Little Lakes Valley* June 22-26, 2022

Little Lakes Valley is a wonderful introduction into the Sierra as a
beginner advanced trip. We will hike 5 miles in and explore the valley for 2 days.

Advanced Backpacking-Difficult *Rae Lakes* July 6-15, 2022

Date: Wed Jul 06, 8:00 AM - Fri Jul 15, 4:00 PM PDT

Located in Sequoia-Kings Canyon National Park, , the 37-mile  loop  trail  to Rae Lakes and back, is stunningly picturesque, passing waterfalls, stream crossings, and high passes. I love the challenge of this trip, the changing terrain, the open views, the lay-over day at Rae Lakes, and the hard-earned triumph at the summit of Glen Pass, Though sections of this trip are physically challenging, the difficult rating is given because there are elevation gains over the first 3 days and a summit that brings us to 11,900ft at Glen Pass, The number of days and distance of the trip is more than the easy and moderate trips. This trip is recommended for registrants who have completed 9th grade by trip date, and have completed a Council backpacking trip of over 20 miles and 5 day duration with multiple camps, who have backpacking experience over 10,000ft, can carry a full pack 8 miles over varied terrain. Conditioning hikes are planned for each month, starting in February and a required group overnight trip will be planned for June that will qualify over 10,000ft.

Advanced Backpacking-Very Strenuous *Whitney* Aug. 2-12, 2022

Date: Tue Aug 02, 8:00 AM - Fri Aug 12, 4:00 PM PDT

This 70-mile thru-hike in the Southern Sierra demands high-level backpacking skills from each participant. The awesome camaraderie, amazing vistas, and feeling of tremendous accomplishment that we experience on this trip comes from working together all year long to plan and execute a top-notch backpack trip. Those who complete this trip will have learned all the skills necessary to complete a long-distance thru-hike of their own.
