Eric Paredes Save a Life Foundation

Smart Heart's Don't Miss A Beat program empowers the next generation of life savers to recognize and respond to sudden cardiac arrest (SCA)—the leading cause of death on school campus and the #1 killer of student athletes. Smart Heart's patch program provides great activities to satisfy various badge requirements and inspires highest awards projects that could change the standard of preventative and emergency care. One in 300 youth has an undetected heart condition that puts them at risk. The survival rate has been stuck at just 10% for three decades. What’s more, studies show bystanders are less likely to use life-saving CPR and an AED on female SCA victims. Today’s young women need to learn to create cultures of prevention where they live, learn, and play to affect change in tomorrow’s communities.

RARE Science

Join forces with  RARE Science, Inc., a non-profit organization that helps find cures for kids with rare disease. The RARE Bear Project is a community driven initiative and is supported by the ever-growing RARE Bear Army of volunteers that help make one of a kind bears for special one of a kind kids. With close to 3,000 bears gifted in over 38 countries, RARE Science is bridging the divide in the rare disease community by creating awareness and support!

An estimated 250 Million kids have a rare disease.  30% of these children will die before their 5th birthday  and 35% will pass before their first birthday. Treatments are difficult to develop for rare diseases because of the scarcity of patients identified, the lack of data needed to better understand, and the cost it takes to find treatments for these diseases. RARE Science is tackling all three of these challenges using a unique methodology to accelerate and decrease time to identify medicines for rare diseases affecting kids.
