San Diego Chinese Historical Museum

San Diego Chinese Historical Museum invites Girl Scouts to earn their Calligraphy patch. Living in a fast-moving world of communication, it’s easy to overlook analog traditions. However, email, ballpoint pens, and computers will never surpass the relaxing art of Chinese calligraphy. Calligraphy is a significant cornerstone in Chinese civilization—a unique gem in Oriental culture. Like any other visual art, the practice is full of nuance and subtle connotations; it evokes emotion with rich variety of form and design. As an abstract art form, it displays a rhythmic and harmonious flow, similar to music, while also cultivating and revealing the inner state of the artist. Calligraphy is the definitive art of the Chinese scholar; A person’s strokes are not only the basis of the art form, but are also thought to represent a person.

RARE Science

Join forces with RARE Science, Inc., a non-profit organization that helps find cures for kids with rare disease. The RARE Bear Project is a community driven initiative and is supported by the ever-growing RARE Bear Army of volunteers that help make one of a kind bears for special one of a kind kids. With close to 3,000 bears gifted in over 38 countries, RARE Science is bridging the divide in the rare disease community by creating awareness and support!

An estimated 250 Million kids have a rare disease.  30% of these children will die before their 5th birthday  and 35% will pass before their first birthday. Treatments are difficult to develop for rare diseases because of the scarcity of patients identified, the lack of data needed to better understand, and the cost it takes to find treatments for these diseases. RARE Science is tackling all three of these challenges using a unique methodology to accelerate and decrease time to identify medicines for rare diseases affecting kids.

RARE Bear Program
Our RARE Bear Program offers a unique opportunity for the community to become engaged in supporting children and their families who are trying to find help and treatment. Creating a RARE Bear for a rare child is a rewarding and selfless act that in turn brings joy and hope to others. Join the RARE Bear Army TODAY!
