Society of Women Engineers Exploring Technology - Time Machine

Imagine how much the world has changed since the first Girl Scout troop meeting 100 years ago. The Society of Women Engineers Exploring Technology (SWEET) invite you to 'travel' to the year 1912 and back to compare inventions of old to modern day technology.

The world in 1912

• Marie Curie was celebrating her second Nobel Prize - the first person to receive two Nobel Prizes and the only person to win in two different sciences.
• Life Savers candy was invented.
• The first woman flew across the English Channel.
• First American woman appointed police detective in New York City.
• RMS Titanic sails its first and last voyage.
• Zippers first used in clothing.
• And Juliette Gordon Low formed the first Girl Scout troop in Savannah, Georgia.

Society of Women Engineers - San Diego Section invites girls' grades 5-8 to imagine the difference they can make in the world as they turn time at SWEET Time Machine. Zoom back and forth between centuries with exciting activities sure to leave you wanting more!

This workshop is ideal for Girl Scout Juniors completing parts of the Bridging to Girl Scout Cadette Award and Girl Scout Cadettes completing parts of the Bridging to Girl Scout Seniors Award. Girls only; Safety Activity Checkpoint ratios provided by staff. Open to non-Girl Scouts.

This year features a new adventures along with some of your past favorite stations. Cost includes event participation patch, snack, and event T-shirt. Past participants, grades 9 and up, can attend as volunteers, contact Robin Lemon rlemon@sdgirlscouts.org to volunteer by March 30, space is limited. NEW- SWEET parent program

While your Girl Scout attends SWEET, you are invited to learn how to support her interest in science, technology, engineering and math at a special parent/educator adult workshop. Learn about careers in engineering, college options and admission. Test your engineering aptitude with hands on, minds on activity similar to the girls. Fee includes refreshment break for informal networking and discussion time with like-minded individuals.
