Your adventure awaits...at Girl Scout summer camp!
Have you ever wondered what horses, musical instruments, tie dye t-shirts, sock monkeys, s'mores, paintbrushes, campfires and the "Make New Friends" song have in common? They are all part of summer camp, of course! Girl Scout summer camp is better than ever in 2010, with new camps, new opportunities and new friends waiting to be made.
Our council offers more than 20 day camps and 60 resident camps for campers entering kindergarten through twelfth grade. Girl Scout camp allows girls to be in an all-girl environment, where research suggests they are more open to meeting new people and challenging themselves to try new activities. The best part is that any girl can attend!
Day camps typically run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with select camps hosting one overnight. Day camps are held at the Balboa Campus, Escondido Program Center, Museum of Making Music in Carlsbad and Heartland Ranch in Lakeside. Aftercare is available at our Balboa Campus for most day camps.
Resident camp sessions are held at Camp Winacka and Camp Whispering Oaks near Julian, where girls can spend three to 10 nights under the stars.
Online resources
In keeping with the Girl Scout tradition of using resources wisely, we've reduced the size of our summer camp brochure and moved online. By now you should have received our 2010 summer camp mailer, complete with times, dates and locations of all your favorite summer camp programs. Visiting us online opens the door to many more resources, including:
- Full descriptions of camp programs
- Online registration
- Camp staff bios
- Camp activities to do on your own or with your troop
- Camper readiness quiz
New pricing structure
New this year, you can choose the fee that best fits your family and resources. The new three-tiered pricing structure allows us to provide the same, high-quality programs to every camper while allowing families new payment options. So go ahead, sign up for more than one camp!
If you want to be part of the magic and tradition that summer camp offers, take a look at our camps for 2010. It's never too soon to start planning.
