Mandatory Catholic Religious Recognitions Training

Adults with girls of all ages planning to earn the Religious Recognitions Award for the Roman Catholic faith are required to attend a free information session before proceeding.

San Diego Natural History Museum

Girl Scout Brownie & Junior Camp-in Girls experience a night at the museum earning their Eco-Explorer Try-it or Earth Connection Badge, with a special focus on habitats in San Diego County. Learn what makes our home such a special place for wildlife. Take a behind-the-scenes tour of the Loan Library, design a habitat to take home, explore DARWIN Evolution|Revolution exhibit and curl up for the night in an ancient habitat of your choice.

Grade:  2-5

Workshops by request San Diego Natural History Museum offers Girl Scout Brownies opportunities to earn their Earth and Sky, Animals or Plants Try-its. Girl Scout Juniors can earn their Your Outdoor Surroundings, Wildlife, Earth Connections or Rocks Rock Badges.

Grades:  Grades 2-3 or 4-5 depending on workshop

Fee:   $13 includes same-day admission to general exhibitions. Minimum 10 girls per workshop.

Girl Scout Day at the Dance Theatre

The San Diego Civic Dance Association presents a special opportunity to learn about theatrical performance. Girls attend two 30-minute dance classes, hip-hop/jazz and musical theater, and the "Dance With The Masters - Collage 2010" performance. Following the show, girls have a chance to meet the performers and ask questions.

National Girls and Women in Sports Day

Celebrate the successes of girls and women in athletics with a fun-filled day at SDSU. Meet female collegiate athletes, participate in sports activities and see the Aztec women's basketball team play New Mexico.

Expanding Your Horizons Conference

During the EYH Conference, girls hear presentations, participate in hands-on workshops, meet with women scientists and engineers, and spend time with other girls who are thinking about their futures. Through these activities, girls experience the fun of math, science and engineering; discover math and science-based careers; and learn about the education required for these professions.

College students mentor and chaperone the girls for the full day of workshops and activities. Parents attend their own workshops and receive important information from college administrators.

4th Annual Hunger Has No Holiday Event

Interfaith Community Services, a North County nonprofit, invites Girl Scouts of all ages to participate in a hands-on, educational tour about service programs for people in need in our community. Girls collect and bring a bag of nonperishable food items to the event.

Emergency Preparedness Patch

The County of San Diego's Office of Emergency Services (OES) invites Girl Scouts to participate in an important community service by distributing the Family Disaster Plan and Personal Survival Guide to family, friends, and neighbors. OES will provide Girl Scout leaders with a free Emergency Preparedness Patch for each girl who delivers a guide to at least 25 households. Brochures in English and Spanish available at Girl Scout resource centers and www.sdcounty.ca.gov/oes/ready/kids.

Empower Your Troop with PlayItSafe

Self-Defense Strategies for Women and Children

PlayItSafe's step-by-step approach teaches girls about stranger awareness, abduction defense, dealing with bullies and "queen bees," plus how to be aware of their surroundings, project confidence, trust intuition and set boundaries. During this simple, fun and interactive session, Daisies, Brownies and Juniors role-play with a mock stranger and bully. Cadettes/Seniors/Ambassadors/Moms receive advanced women's self-defense training.

EvOLvE Dance

EvOLvE Dance goes beyond traditional dance classes. This fun, student-directed leadership dance program allows students to decide on the show theme, dance style, music and choreography. Students of all dance levels work in groups to prepare for the end-of-workshop performance, then perform their own creations. Within a structured curriculum and a positive, high-energy and supportive environment, students develop confidence, teamwork and communication skills.

Age:  Grades 4-12 (The workshop is developed for various ages and levels; students receive roles and responsibilities appropriate for their age.)

Bounce California

During this hour-long workshop, girls learn the basics of gymnastics tumbling while having fun and working on coordination.

Chick-fil-A Restaurant Tour

Girls see how the restaurant industry works when they tour Chick-fil-A's kitchen and front counter. They observe how the restaurant staff prepares chicken, squeezes lemonade, cooks fries and handles customers' orders. Each girl enjoys a free kid's meal after the tour.

Other:  Wear closed toe shoes. Peanut oil is used for food preparation, so tour may not be appropriate for those with peanut allergies. While parents are welcome to attend, only girls will receive free meal.


San Diego EcoCenter

This fast-paced, educational tour covers alternative fuels, renewable energy, watts, recycling and more. Girls design and decorate an eco-friendly tote bag, learn the difference between petroleum and non-petroleum, complete a skit about keeping the Earth clean, and discuss how San Diego might achieve cleaner air.

Grade:  4-8

Toby Wells YMCA Gymnastics Center

This YMCA in Kearny Mesa offers gymnastics classes for girls of all ages. Girls enjoy a 55-minute class with qualified instructors while having fun in an active and safe environment.
