Be a Pal, Protect a Life: Food Allergies
An estimated 12 million Americans have food allergies, and doctors report that number is increasing. Food-induced anaphylaxis (a severe allergic reaction) accounts for approximately 30,000 emergency room visits and 100-200 deaths a year. Most food-related allergic reactions in children and teens happen while they are with friends.
The "Be a Pal, Protect a Life: Food Allergies" patch program helps Girl Scouts of all ages better understand and support friends and family living with food allergies. It also provides troops with tools for allergy-sensitive menu planning and cooking, and much more. View our "Be A Pal" Patch requirements online. Patches are sold in all council stores.
