Performing Arts Workshop (PAW) - The Nutcracker

Select from a free outreach ballet performance or a paid show in a theater. Includes patch earning opportunities; pre-show backstage tours available.

San Diego Civic Youth Ballet - The Nutcracker

Take a wondrous journey with Clara, the Nutcracker Prince and the Sugar Plum Fairy at a special discounted performance just for Girl Scouts. A 30-minute meet and greet follows, with opportunities to get autographs and take photos with the dancers.

Fee:  $6 per Girl Scout, $12 per Adult Chaperone, $3 per Nutcracker Patch, if requested (not required)

Mt. Carmel High School Fall Play

Enjoy a matinee performance of It's a Wonderful Life at Mt. Carmel High School. As a bonus, troop receives a backstage tour and post-show Q&A session with the director, actors and techs. Meets some Theater Patch requirements.

Fee:  $5 per Girl Scout and first adult, $8/$10 per additional student/adult

Hornblower Whale Watching Cruise

During a three-and-a-half hour adventure, watch some of the 28,000 majestic gray whales that pass by the San Diego coast on their 10,000-mile migration from the Bering Sea to Baja California. Sea lions, blue herons and dolphins may also appear. Narrated by an experienced captain, with information provided by the San Diego Natural History Museum.

Location:  Board at the B Street Pier in downtown San Diego
Fee:  $13/girl, $16/adult (full retail: $37). Use code word GRL for Girl Scout price.

Healthy Scouts Workshop

Take a trip down the Highway to Health at the Junior League of San Diego's Healthy Scouts Workshop. Girl Scout Juniors will take part in fun, interactive activities and learn about making healthy life choices.

The day includes:

  • Making quick and easy snacks
  • Fun ways to incorporate physical activity into everyday life
  • Learning how to make healthy food choices
  • Fun prizes and giveaways
Age:  Junior
Date:  Sundays, January 31 or March 14
Time:  2-5 p.m. (check-in: 2-2:30 p.m.)
Location:  Balboa Campus
Fee:  $2 per girl (includes badge)

Other:  Email Ali for registration form. Girls who complete the workshop earn the Highway to Health badge. Event limited to 80 girls.


Rocking K Ranch

The Rocking K Ranch offers Girls Scouts the opportunity to actively work with horses. Each girl must bring an equestrian riding helmet and proper footwear with half-inch heel. Helmets can be rented from council resource centers for $5 each. Rocking K accommodates up to 10 girls per session. A first aid/CPR certified individual must be present. Troops who enroll in both of the following programs will receive a $5 discount from each participant's tuition total.

Horse Fan
After discussing safety procedures, troops actively participate in cleaning a corral and learn about equipment, clothing, and how to feed, approach and groom horses. They watch how to safely catch a loose horse, lead, saddle and bridle. Girls then practice newly acquired skills while leading a horse through an arena trail obstacle course. Horseback riding is not a part of this program. Session lasts up to two hours.

Horse Rider and Horseback Riding
These programs pick up where the Horse Fan program left off. Girls receive substantial horseback riding time and a 5% discount toward additional riding lessons. Sessions last up to three hours.

Time:  90 minutes

Fee:  $50 per girl (includes bottled water, snack, handouts, patch and a Rocking K Certificate of Achievement)
