Destinations

Girl Scout destinations Expo

Through the destinations travel program, girls age 11-17 go somewhere new, try different activities, and meet people from around the world. Check out the list of 2010 destinations and complete an application at www.studio2b.org/escape/destinations. Applications are due by Sunday, November 1. Great Escape 2009

Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors say . . .
"We're taking over Whispering Oaks and Winacka for Great Escape 2009!"

Get away for some fresh air, chilling with 300 of your closest Girl Scout friends on this epic adventure weekend. Meet other cool girls and choose your own fun Will you opt for a winterized or rustic cabin, or maybe primitive tent camping? Prepare your own food or eat in the common dining hall . . . you decide.

Lodging options:

  • Winterized cabins ($30 per person; bring personal and sleeping gear) – Troops are placed in cabins with other campers and assigned to maximize space usage. Location sent in confirmation packet.

Meal options:

  • Meals in the common dining hall ($15 per person) includes Saturday breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus Sunday breakfast.
  • Prepare your own food (no charge) –Bring all equipment, including chuck box, dishwashing station, coolers, food and stove. No open fires.

Registration due by Monday, September 28. Registrations received after that will be on a wait list. Site assignment date is September 30. Confirmation packets mailed to registered troops on October 7.

Sunday, October 18 – Mandatory 2 p.m. leader meeting for one adult from each registered troop.

You Can Be. . . A WRITER

Do you have your own blog? Is composing online fiction your passion? Maybe your idea of heaven is publishing your stories for others to enjoy? If so, You Can Be. . . a Writer is designed for you.

Meet women successfully using their skills to make their dreams a reality. Tour the North County Times press room and newsroom, where you'll meet an editor and learn what it takes to be a professional writer.

Then head to Girl Scouts' Escondido Program Center to learn about taking your great imagination and literary skills to the next level.

Workshops can count towards the Gold and Silver Career Awards and Writing for Real IP requirements. Space is limited to 30 participants. Leaders/troop adults must provide transportation from the North County Times to the Escondido Program Center for the second half of the workshop.

Tongues Untied: Healthy Relationships

Ever wish you could talk to your parents about dating without them freaking out? Can you explain the qualities that are important to you in a friendship? Do you know what to do if you think a friend may be in a harmful relationship or it feels like nobody ever listens to you?

This interactive event will bring girls and adults together in a unique forum to explore these topics and others in a hands-on format. Staff and professionals will help guide the discussion and activities, allowing everyone the chance to share their point of view and ideas and walk away with tips and resources for building and maintaining healthy relationships. Participants will complete some of the Conflict Resolution Interest Project requirements.

Note: In order for this event to be successful, each girl participant must have an adult she feels comfortable with register with her. All girls must bring a signed sensitive issues permission form, provided with the event confirmation.
