Be Your Best Recycling Collection
Collect recyclables and take care of our planet as you earn funds for Girl Scout activities and programs!
During the Be Your Best collection drive (Thursday, October 1 to Thursday, December 31):
- Collect aluminum cans, plastic soda bottles and glass bottles.
- Redeem them for cash at your local recycling center.
- Add the cash to your troop funds, donate it to our Girl Scout council, or allocate a portion to each. Council donations help provide the financial assistance that keeps Girl Scouting available and affordable for all girls. Funds send girls to camp, cover membership and event fees, pay for volunteer training, etc.
- Order patches by e-mailing this information to afreese@sdgirlscouts.org by Friday, January 29:
- Troop leader (or Juliette's parent) name
- Troop number, if applicable
- Mailing address
- Weight of the recyclables
- Number of girl participants
Attend the Be Your Best Eco Expo on Saturday, October 31, to learn more about recycling and protecting our environment.
Camp Winacka gets greener
This fall, our council will begin using straw bales to build Camp Winacka's new Environmental Center and GEICO Reception Center. These large blocks of compressed straw make eco-friendly building materials. Straw is a renewable resource that reduces the use of lumber and provides excellent insulation to reduce heating and cooling costs.
Want to get involved? Watch upcoming issues of Program News for information on how you can help construct the buildings.
