Girl Scouts Achieve Gold and Silver Award Goals
"Success means having the courage, the determination, and the will to become the person you believe you were meant to be."-George Sheehan

As leaders, parents and adults within Girl Scouts, we encourage our girls to discover, connect and take action within their local and global communities. The leadership skills, service, and personal passion that Girl Scouts develop throughout the years culminates in Girl Scouting's highest honor, the Girl Scout Silver and Gold Awards.

The prestigious awards honor young women who made personal and public commitments to fulfill a need in their communities and create positive, sustainable change. Recipients spend years building the framework, tackling obstacles and developing the leadership skill set to achieve their ultimate goal. Committed adults empower the girls, while allowing them to master crucial skills on their own. A fine line exists between encouraging girls from the sidelines and stepping in to help when they struggle. However, by supporting and not leading, we can witness each young woman evolving into an individual who makes the world a better place.

San Diego-Imperial Council congratulates the young women who earned the Girl Scout Silver and Gold Award. The sense of accomplishment and commitment that results from earning these awards sets the foundation for a lifetime of active citizenship. It is truly a testament to our girls' courage, confidence, and character that we present these awards to so many each year. The 2009 Silver Award ceremonies were conducted within individual clusters during May and June, while the Gold Award ceremony was held on May 30 at the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center in La Jolla.

Bronze, Silver, Gold Awards Update:
As you may know, Girl Scouts USA is updating the requirements for the Bronze, Silver and Gold awards so they align better with the Girl Scout Leadership Experience and provide a consistent experience across the country. We expect the new requirements to be published by Girl Scouts USA (www.girlscouts.org) in the fall of 2009. In anticipation of these updates our council will suspend award training beginning June 1. However, project workshop classes for Silver and Gold Awards for girls who have completed steps 1-4 will continue until further notice.

In the meantime, we encourage any girls, groups or troops interested in earning any of these highest awards to work on the appropriate program level (Junior, Cadette, Senior, or Ambassador) Journey until the updated requirements are released.

We are committed to providing a quality program experience for girls and a quality volunteer experience for our adult members, and will share information about award requirement updates as soon as we receive it. If you have a specific question related to your award process, please contact a Program Specialist at (619) 298-8391. Thanks for your partnership during this time of transition.
