Adult and Youth Volunteer Leadership
Do you want to help teach hiking and backpacking courses? We welcome adult and youth assistant leaders who want to learn more about this great leadership opportunity.
Are you a qualified council backpack and wilderness hiking trainers? You're invited to join our team of dedicated volunteers.
As an adult or youth volunteer, you'll benefit from teaching others while upholding the high standards of our program. You'll share your knowledge and passion for the outdoors. And, adult assistants may continue with the program and more training to and become qualified council trainers.
Opportunities
Assistant Trainers
Adult and youth assistants offer teaching support to council trainers, serve as role models to training participants and give participants additional one-on-one attention. Assistants must have completed Girl Scouts' Basic Backpacking training to help lead Wilderness Hiking or Basic Backpacking. They work alongside a qualified council trainer.
Youth or adults trained in backpacking from other sources (for example Camp Winacka resident camp or Boy Scouts) should contact Gabby Coburn, Program Specialist, to learn whether their training fits this program and what options are available.
