Advanced Backpacking APPALACHIAN TRAIL Anna Iadevaia

The Appalachian Trail, ranging from Maine to Georgia, is said to be the longest hiking-only footpath in the world. With the group, you’ll select from one of four hikes presented at the Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018 planning meeting. Expect terrain to be moderate with some challenging sections, with high probability of rain. Prerequisite: One advanced backpacking trip of at least 5 days on the trail with a full pack.

Possible trail-head / hike locations:
 Georgia at beginning of the AT, Springer Mountain approx. 30 miles, 8-10 miles/day moderate
 Shenandoah National Park, 30 miles 6-8 miles/day moderate to strenuous
 From Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland to Harper’s Ferry 8-10miles moderate
 White Mountains / Franconia Ridge, moderate to strenuous 6-8mi/day, mountainous

Budget for approximately $800-1100, including airfare. Dates below are approximate and may change during trip planning. MEETING 1-JANUARY 14, 2018: Balboa Campus 2:30-3pm  Q&A about the trip. 3-5pm . 3-5pm registered girls and adults will begin planning to decide which hike to prepare for, identify risks and expectations, discuss budget and reservations.
MEETING 2-MARCH 11: 3-5pm at Balboa campus. Receive basic trip outline and decide on daily itinerary, decide on when/where to fly, how long trip will be, if time for historic sites, preliminary budget. purchase airline ticket by next meeting. 
MEETING 3-April 15 finalize all reservations, permits, and trip itinerary, equipment needs
MEETING 4- MAY 20 LAST PLANNING MEETING-evaluate equipment needs, location: Balboa campus
MEETING 5 – JUNE 17 equipment check-out and pack check with co-leader. 

Cancellation Policy: Refund and transfer requests must be submitted in writing prior to the registration deadline listed on the activity. No refunds or transfers will be issued after the registration deadline has passed unless the event is cancelled by council staff.
