Advanced Backpacking Trip-Mt. Whitney
Trip meetings are 1/14, 3/16, and 5/4. Trip dates are 7/28 - 8/7. Register by 1/7/2016 to join us for our initial itinerary planning meeting on 1/14/2016. Final registration deadline is 3/1. Additional meetings may be required. All dates must be attended to successfully complete the course. Explore the wonders of the wilds with the third step in our wilderness training. This program, designed for individuals, safely takes girls and adults on unforgettable adventures. Enjoy the majesty of nature along with the camaraderie of fellow backpacking enthusiasts, while building skills to a higher level. Pre-requisites: Minimum age is 15. 1st Aid & CPR/WFA; multiple advanced trips; demonstrated ability to backpack comfortably for at least a week and 40+ miles at extreme high altitude.
Description: Backpacking up Mt. Whitney is an iconic high-altitude experience, and this 70-mile trip north along the Pacific Crest Trail will astound you with its beauty and diversity. Gutsy and great, this long trip has the feel of a thru-hike. We’ll enter the Sierras at Cottonwood Lakes, head north on the PCT to summit Mt. Whitney, then continue north over 13,153’ Forester Pass to exit through Kearsarge Lakes to Onion Valley Trailhead.
