Resident Camp Descriptions -- Camp Whispering Oaks

Girl Scout Camp 2010 Resident Camp is an overnight camp experience of 4-13 days at one of our mountain camps near Julian - Camp Winacka or Camp Whispering Oaks.

To ensure younger, first-time campers have a positive camp experience, counselors sleep in the cabins with the campers for programs marked with the ▲ symbol.

Any girl can attend. Non-Girl Scouts simply pay a $12 membership fee and enjoy Girl Scout membership.

 

Sports

Cheertastic!
Entering grades 4-6
Gimme a C-A-M-P… What does that spell? CAMP! Master new cheers, moves and basic cheerleading stunts. Make your own pom-poms and perform cheers for the whole camp. Campers work toward their Field Sports and Fun & Fit Badges and On the Playing Field Interest Project.

Creative Arts

Sugar and Spice
Entering grades 4-5

Teddy Bear Picnic

Camp Dance Crew
Entering grades 6-8
Five, six, seven, eight! Choreograph, practice and perform a dance routine for the whole camp. Sample hip-hop, line dancing, ballet, salsa, hula and modern dance. Campers work toward their Invitation to the Dance Interest Project.

Sew What?
Entering grades 7-9 (Session 2); entering grades 8-10 (Session 4)
Here's a chance to celebrate your own unique style. Learn to sew and redesign clothes using hand and machine techniques. Take your pick from our thrift store finds or bring your own duds to redo. Put on a fashion show and model your couture creations in front of the whole camp. Campers work toward their Sew Simple and Yarn & Fabric Badges and Fashion Design and Textile Arts Interest Projects.

Counselor-in-Training II
Entering grade 12
Continue developing your counseling skills. Work directly with campers and get experience in supervision, group management and program planning. Wrangler-in-Training
Entering grade 12
Experience the horse program from the other side. Interact directly with campers and help lead horse programs under the supervision of the riding staff, while continuing to develop your own advanced horse knowledge and skills. Work with the horses most days. You'll also participate in the CIT II core program. Prerequisites: Successful completion of Counselor-in-Training I. Must be confident in ability to completely groom and tack a horse, lope with control on the correct lead, figure eight at the jog and use leg aids for maneuvers.
