About our Resident Camps

Girl Scout resident camps offer girls adventures in the outdoors--for first-time or repeat campers. Songs, skits and campfires, laughter and friendship are all part of every girl's camp experience.

Each group of campers and staff plans its own programs based on the girls' interests, including arts and crafts, hiking, archery, nature activities, swimming, challenge course and cookouts. Additional activities are offered based on the camp session's theme.

Camps Winacka and Whispering Oaks are located on the same 700-acre oak woodland site near the mountain town of Julian, 60 miles east of San Diego. Bus transportation is available for a $10 fee from Balboa Park in San Diego and the Escondido Program Center in Kit Carson Park.

Resident camp is open to girls in second through twelfth grade. To ensure younger, first-time campers have a positive camp experience, counselors sleep in the cabins with the campers for programs marked with the ▲ symbol.

Any girl can attend Girl Scout resident camp. Non-Girl Scouts simply pay a $12 membership fee and enjoy Girl Scout membership.

What will your adventure be?

Camp Winacka

This traditional camp's living units are tucked in the trees surrounding an open meadow. Girls sleep in open-air cabins with built-in bunks, tent houses or on cots under the stars. All units have modern bathrooms with showers and luggage storage areas. Activities center around the lodge, cafeteria and swimming pool areas, as well as the brand new environmental center built from eco-friendly straw bales.

Camp Whispering Oaks offers all the comforts of modern cabins in the beautiful outdoors. Living and activity areas are connected with paved lighted pathways winding through natural vegetation of manzanita, oak and pine.
