Day Camp Descriptions
Day camp is for girls entering kindergarten through 12th grade. Sessions run Monday through Friday with occasional overnight options. Campers bring lunch and water bottles, snacks are provided. Camps offer traditional Girl Scout programs with unique opportunity for girl planning. Program Aide positions offer leadership opportunities for girls entering grades 7-12.
Camps feature a variety of program options
Qualified, enthusiastic, well-trained staff and volunteers develop and operate the highest quality camp programs.
Any girl can attend. Non-Girl Scouts simply pay a $12 membership fee and enjoy Girl Scout membership.

Spring Break Adventures
March 29 - April 2, 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
Entering grades 2-5
Experience all the fun of day camp on your spring break! Challenge yourself and your team on the Mobile Challenge Course and other low elements at the new Adventure Zone. Juniors will attempt new heights on a 40-foot climbing wall. Work on a badge or try-it, explore the museums of Balboa Park, and enjoy traditional camp crafts and games.

Girls Empowered to Make Movies (G.E.M.M.)
June 21-25, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. (Film screening party at 4 p.m.; camp ends 5 p.m. Friday)
Balboa Campus
Entering grades 7-11
Learn how to express yourself and the issues you care about through the power of film. You'll learn how to use a movie camera, editing software and audio and lighting equipment with guidance from professional female filmmakers. You'll also discover the creative process of script development, acting and set design plus different techniques including animation and special effects. At the end of the fifth day, invite your family to camp for a special screening of the films created during the week.

Green Thumbs

Spend a week enjoying fresh air, green spaces and hands-on gardening. Learn how to grow fresh fruits and vegetables and design your own green retreat. Connect with nature as you explore the gardens of Balboa Park and care for baby plants in our hoop house.

Girls of Greatness: Going My Way 2010
June 28-July 2, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Balboa Campus
Entering grades 1-6
Join the green revolution and learn about alternative transportation over land, air and sea. Ride bikes, roller skate, take the trolley, go for a hike, ride the train, swim in the ocean and bounce in the air. You'll visit the National City Train Depot Museum, Automotive Museum and Inflatable World. We will collect food donations, make international foods, learn games from around the world and finish the week with an international costume party. Girls work on the Alternative Transportation Patch, Brownie Girl Scouts Around the World Try-It, and On My Way and World Neighbors Badges. Overnight for Program Aides, staff and COVs on Friday.

Discover wild wonders at this super fun mini-day camp. Learn about animals and ecology through SeaWorld's "Wonders of the River" program and a Water Conservation Garden field trip. Enjoy crafts, swimming, games and more. Do activities from the Eco-Explorer Try-It, Wildlife Badge and Interest Project. Sleepover Wednesday night at SeaWorld's newest river exhibit, followed by a day of SeaWorld discovery.

RAINBOWS: Really Active Interesting Nifty Bunch of Wonderful Stuff. Discover as you play, make crafts, swim, enjoy guest artists, and make choices. Explore with field trips to the San Diego Puppet Theater, a San Diego Junior Theatre production of "Gepetto" and Balboa Park museums. Connect and make new friends with campers from Rainbow's End. Take action as your team creates and stages a short presentation. Work on activities from the Friends are Fun Try-It or the Folk Art Badge. Celebrate with a day at LEGOLAND.

Rainbow's End Plays Again!

Come and "play!" Discover and develop your interests and skills in theatre as you see two professional productions. Connect with others as you design sets, assemble props, create costumes, produce a program and/or be an actor in camp productions. Take action as you do special crafts and broaden your leadership skills with our work on the play and by interacting with campers from RAINBOWS. We'll present our play for them, your family and friends. Then we'll celebrate with a day at California Adventure! Come play with us!

Outdoor Skills & Discovery

Swim one day at the Bud Kearns Memorial Pool and try archery (campers entering grades 4-7 only). We'll take field trips to the San Diego Children's Museum and a Junior Theatre production of "Fame." Girls sample activities from art-related Try-Its, badges and interest projects.

In the afternoon return to camp for more games, crafts and fun with friends. Younger campers will do activities from the Hobbies Try-It; girls entering grades 4-5 do the Doing Hobbies Badge; grades 6-7, the Games for Life Interest Project.

Horsin' Around:
All horse camps feature half the day spent with horses, including an hour each of the following: riding in the arena, hands-on horse education and receiving classroom-style lessons. The other half-day features crafts, games, snacks and activities related to the week's theme. All sessions are taught in groups. According to Girl Scout and American Camp Association Safety Standards, it is required to have shoes/boots with a half-inch heel to ride. Tennis shoes are not acceptable. Please be prepared with the appropriate shoes/boots on the first day of camp. A limited number of boots may be available to check out for the week.
California Cowgirls
