New camp session at Whispering Oaks

Finish your summer off right with a final taste of Camp Whispering Oaks — one last s’more, one last campfire, one last song and one more new friendship! Programs available at our just-added Aug. 18-22 session include Brownie Jamboree for girls going into grades 2-3; Robin Hoods, I Heart Art and Just Dance for girls entering grades 4-5; and Mountain Chef Goddess and Arts Alive for incoming Cadettes. Jenni Prisk to emcee VCC

She’s back: Voices of Women founder Jenni Prisk will once again emcee our Volunteer Celebration on Saturday, Aug. 16, teaming up with keynote speaker Cindy Marten to help us spotlight the standout individuals and organizations that make Girl Scouting possible. Brownies-Juniors: Food for Thought

Take an international tour with your taste buds, Saturday, Sept. 20, 9-11 a.m. at our Balboa Campus Leadership Center. Learn about the world’s most frequently used herbs and spices, the difference between vegans and vegetarians, where your favorite foods come from, and how you can help a friend with a food allergy. Brownies: My Best Self badge workshop

Staying active and eating well are great ways to be your best. Saturday, Oct. 25, 9-11 a.m. at our Balboa Campus Leadership Center, find out what types of food make up a healthy diet, meet a healthcare professional and explore ways to keep yourself hale and hearty. Plus, have a dance party and see how moving around can make you smile. You’ll meet some requirements for the My Best Self badge. Cost: $8/girl; adults free. Register by Friday, Oct. 10. Help restore vintage airplanes

File your flight plan for a trip to the San Diego Air & Space Museum hangar, Saturday, Sept. 13, 9 a.m.-noon. Tour the warehouse and see how the volunteer restoration team prepares vintage airplanes for exhibit — then join them to learn new knot-tying skills and secure fabric covering to the wings. Service opportunity: Support military moms

Operation Showers of Appreciation honors our nation’s military, first responders and their families with baby showers and other programs, held regularly throughout San Diego county. Volunteers needed for Urban Campout: Adventures in Wonderland

As we get ready for our Wonderland-themed Urban Campout fundraiser on Friday, Sept. 12, we’re looking for volunteers for positions from pre-party parking greeters to live auction handlers. Outdoor Skills Weekend: Registration open

Join our yearly adult encampment and retreat at Camp Winacka, Friday, Oct. 3, 5 p.m. to noon on Sunday, Oct. 5. Your three-day getaway includes all meals on Saturday and Sunday breakfast, beautiful surroundings and a wide range of learning activities. Global Arms of Advocacy: Apply now

Seniors-Ambassadors: Be a part of a groundbreaking ongoing program where girls like you learn about and publicly advocate for global issues that specifically affect women and girls. Download the application and submit by Thursday, Aug. 7 to join a countywide family of courageous teens who take steps to tackle the problem of women’s oppression and enact change in their communities — starting with a special event on International Day of the Girl (Saturday, Oct. 11). Daisies-Juniors, kick off the Girl Scout year with us: Bring a friend and explore movie-related Journey and badge activities, Friday, Aug. 22, 7-10 p.m. at our Balboa Campus.
