Camp tee: S'more fun with Girl Scouts
Our 2014 S'more Camp Tee proudly features the names of camps Winacka and Whispering Oaks, our two mountain properties, below a cute cartoon depicting a time-honored outdoor snack. The shirt comes in navy or tan, youth small through adult 3XL.
A gift for your camper
Send a little love to your girl at camp: Our Day Camp Kit and Resident Camp Kit are available in stores and online for delivery to Winacka, Whispering Oaks, or day camps at our Balboa Campus and Escondido Program Center.
 
STEM resources for grade 6-12 leaders
There's a world of opportunity for older girls in STEM: It's Your Planet — Love It! is only the beginning. Discover new ways to support girls working on Breathe!, Sow What‌ and Justice; network with other leaders; and tinker with fun, easy science activities for your troop. Experience Techbridge kits like Engineers to the Rescue and Design Time, in addition to Imagine Your STEM Future toolkits, and learn how to access our resources and help your troop envision STEM careers. Register for a session at our Escondido Program Center (Wednesday, July 23), Balboa Campus (Thursday, July 24), or North Coastal Service Center (Monday, July 30); cost: $5. Take a journey through film
Daisies-Juniors, kick off the Girl Scout year with us: Bring a friend and explore movie-related Journey and badge activities, Friday, Aug. 22, 7-10 p.m. at our Balboa Campus. Save the date: You Can Be ... a Producer
Girls in grades 8-12: Go behind the scenes with Cox Channel 4 and experience each step of the production process. On Wednesday, Aug. 13, 9:30 a.m.-noon, film in front of a green screen to make a Girl Scout PSA; Wednesday, Aug. 27, help edit your work — and meet Cox Communications' female executives, who will share tips for successful careers. Grades 4-7: Explore careers at Design Time
Learn the ins-and-outs of engineering, Saturday, Sept. 27, noon-4:30 p.m. at our Escondido Program Center. Step one: Challenge yourself to be a toy designer, brainstorming, drawing up plans and building a prototype. Step two: Become a packaging engineer as you create shipping materials that prevent your cookies from crumbling. Step three: Try on one of four hats — mechanical or chemical engineer, marketing specialist or product manager — to make a new bubble product a giant success. Free neighborhood event: 4th of July bike decorating
Friday, July 4, 10 a.m.-noon: Join artist Mona Lizzy at North Park Community Preschool to decorate your bike, scooter or wagon at a community event. "Travel" to Tahiti
Heiva San Diego welcomes Girl Scouts on A Journey to The South Pacific, Saturday-Sunday, Aug. 9-10 (workshops offered 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. both days). Immerse yourself in Tahitian culture: Learn the history and significance of traditions like leis and crowns, woven baskets, music and dance, and bamboo carving; or find out about conservation efforts in French Polynesia. PolarTREC: Research in action
On Saturday, July 12, meet Peggy McNeal, an East County middle school teacher who's off to collect data in the Arctic. Explore her research and understand how climate change affects glaciers in the fjords of Norway. Try on extreme cold-weather gear and "blubber gloves," decorate an edible glacier, and design a postcard for her to send you from the northernmost post office in the world. After the program, the adventure's not over: Talk to her research team during "Polar Connect," her live Skype chat, on Sunday, Aug. 10. Adults: Save the date for Outdoor Skills Weekend 2014, Friday, Oct. 3-Sunday, Oct. 5. Hone your camping and leading abilities, make new friends and rejuvenate during an adult encampment at Camp Winacka. Your three-day getaway includes all meals, beautiful surroundings and a wide range of learning activities.
