We launch our super-improved, easy-to-use online registration page on Thursday, Aug. 15. Look forward to single-login access for families and troops (along with the ability to view all orders for family or troop members), user-friendly navigation, handy prompts and help features, and an improved search function allowing you to find programs by level, grade, location or key word.
5K event: On the run
Our annual New Day 5K event is moving from fall to spring! Join us Saturday, March 1, for a fun run that raises money for Girl Scout programs. Stay tuned for an exciting announcement, a new location and more information coming soon.
New training calendar available
We’ve added new courses to our lineup. Gain girl planning and group management skills at Tips and Tools for Busy Volunteers, prevent and prepare for aquatic emergencies with Lifeguard or Basic Water Rescue certifications from the Red Cross, or learn flag-handling etiquette in Advanced Flag Ceremonies. Global Arms of Advocacy now accepting applications
Seniors-Ambassadors: Be a part of a groundbreaking program where girls like you learn about and publicly advocate for HIV/AIDS awareness as well as issues that specifically affect women and girls. Apply by Wednesday, Sept. 4 to join a countywide family of courageous teens who take steps to tackle the problem of women’s oppression and enact change in their communities. Trainings for girls and adults
Seniors, Ambassadors and adult supporters can get a helping hand as they prepare to “Go Gold!” Girls work with experienced facilitators to discover their passions, connect with community issues, and get inspired to take action. Go Gold! workshops begin Sept. 1
Older girls: At these monthly sessions, connect with others pursuing their Gold Awards and learn directly from recent recipients, or just find a quiet space to work on your project proposal. Through our activities, you’ll explore your passions, identify community issues, and understand what’s required to meet the Gold standard of excellence. Share great times at Camp Winacka with your favorite “He” (a registered male Girl Scout member) from Friday, Oct. 11, 7 p.m. to Sunday, Oct. 13, 1 p.m. Outdoor games, art activities, hearty meals and campfires are all part of the fun for campers in grades 2-8 and aides in grades 9-12. Camp with her
Experience camp with your adult “She” (a registered Girl Scout mom, grandmother, aunt, adult sister, mentor etc.) Friday-Sunday, Oct. 18-20 or May 9-11 at Camp Whispering Oaks. Enjoy nature, teambuilding, crafts, campfires and skits. Cadettes-Ambassadors and their “She’s” have freedom to explore camp, help younger girls, or participate in activities like archery and high ropes. Zap — you’re in charge of your life!
Cadette-Ambassador troops: Welcome to Winacka Town, a miniature city where you’ll be assigned a job, salary and neighborhood. Hone your budgeting and collaboration skills as you spend your earnings on camp activities and explore hot topics like inequality and social justice, Friday-Sunday, Sept. 20-22. You’ll work toward the Financial Literacy badge for your program level. At least one attending leader must have camp training and current First Aid/CPR. September Family Movie Night
Gather the whole gang for a family-friendly movie night on Friday, September 6 at the Escondido Program Center. Bring lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy an evening under the stars; we’ll provide popcorn and a variety of G- and PG-rated films for participants to vote on. Non-members are welcome. Set a course for your cluster! Join girls and adults at our Balboa Campus Leadership Center on Sunday, Aug. 18, 3-4:30 p.m. or Escondido Program Center, Sunday, Aug. 25, 3-4:30 p.m. to discuss clusters (regional, girl-led meetings of Girl Scouts in grades 6-12), make a plan for regular meetings and topics, and talk about Girl Planning Boards. Middle school Taekwondo
Join a multi-level Taekwondo program, where you’ll learn traditional movements, Olympic style and self-defense techniques as you progress toward your first degree black belt. Night at the Padres: Correction to July 24 issue
The San Diego Padres are hosting a Girl Scout Night on Saturday, Aug. 24, 5:40 p.m. Girls and troop leaders take part in a pre-game parade on the warning track, then watch the Padres take on the Chicago Cubs.
