The 6th Annual Girl Scouts New Day 5K and Sharp® Health Expo is scheduled for Sunday, October 7, 2012 at San Diego's beautiful Mission Bay. The event will include a 5K and a 1-mile run/walk followed by the energetic and fun-filled Sharp® Health Expo, where exhibitors and special guests share information on fitness, nutrition, emotional well-being, sports, active wear, games, and more.
Girl Scouts launched this event as a way to challenge members, staff, families, and communities to "make this the first day of their new healthy life." We all know there are many things we can do to be more healthy, but we also know how easy it is to put off starting a new healthy habit. At the New Day 5K participants share their "new day resolutions" with the world by sharing them on the Resolution Wall. Just like a new year's resolution, it's a great way to commit to a goal and kick-start a better way of life, whether it's spiritually, emotionally, or physically.
With nearly 1,500 participants and more than 2,000 attendees in 2011, the Girl Scouts New Day 5K was recognized by the Wall Street Journal as one of the top 5Ks in the nation. It was also nominated for "Event of the Year" in the Annual California Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports Spotlight Awards.
